How Your Website Speed Measures Up

Genius Monkey is excited to announce the newest utensil in our technological toolbox; it’s called Genius Monitor, and it’s designed to help our clients better understand how their website is performing when it comes to their page speed.

Genius Monkey checks to make sure that not only its code is loading properly, but that the load time of the site is below a given threshold. In short, this service generates information that will help clients determine how they stack up to the current industry benchmarks for page speed, and protect them from spending money on ads on a site that may be down.

We live in a world of high demand when it comes to internet speed. We have grown to expect almost immediate results when we click on a link. In fact, 53% of mobile site visitors will leave a page if it takes more than three seconds to open. This is a problem, insomuch as the average time it takes for a landing page to fully load is 22 seconds! It’s a critical factor for marketers to design websites that provide fast web experiences across all industry sectors. Whether they’re paying bills online, searching for product reviews or looking to read a specific article right away, if the results aren’t delivered quickly, the users will simply move on. Genius Monitor takes the guesswork out of finding out.

Genius Monitor is essential for any marketer who deems customer service and high traffic volumes an essential part of their programmatic digital advertising platform. That’s because websites are always changing due to edits, inventory changes, dynamic code, etc. And the last thing anyone wants is for a potential customer to click on an ad and land on the website, but leave right away because the site didn’t load fast enough … or not at all! Wouldn’t you, as a marketer, want to know if that was occurring on your site?

The need for our new Genius Monitor is emphasized and enhanced when one looks at the likelihood of a user “bouncing” (meaning to leave the site right away) because the load time is too slow.

A recent study* using a neural net computer system (modeled on the human brain and nervous system) that was loaded with a great deal of bounce rate and conversions data was conducted, and it revealed some intriguing facts. This system, which has a 90% accuracy rate, was able to determine that as a page load-time increases from one second to seven seconds, the likelihood of a mobile site visitor bouncing increases by 113%. In addition, as the number of elements (such as text, images and titles) increase from 400 to 6,000, the probability of a conversion drops by 95%.

In addition, further information revealed that as the page load time goes from 1-3 seconds, the probability of the user bouncing is 32%. When it increases to 1 to 5 seconds, the probability of bounce jumps to 90%. When it increases to 1 to 6 seconds, the likelihood of bounce goes to 106%, and from 1 to 10 seconds, the chances of bounce increase to a whopping 123%!

Another reason that Genius Monkey utilizes this technology is because if the site goes down, our system can stop showing ads until the site is fully restored. This saves the advertisers money and frustration, and we always strive to protect the ad dollars that they’ve spent with us.

Now, with Genius Monitoring, marketers can focus on building positive mobile-first experiences, knowing at all times how their site is performing, and how quickly the users are able to access the info they’re searching for.
